Five Menswear Trends we Love

All the SS23 London and Paris fashion week you need to see

By Danielle Viljoen

SS13 London and Paris Fashion Week did not disappoint. It’s as though the world has finally awoken from its slumber, and we get to appreciate and embrace all the fashion that is so passionately presented to us by the most talented designers.

Translucent and metallic fabrics, rainbow brights, woven knits and subtle neons dominated both runways this season. The return of sportswear and the athleisure trend was inevitable, while tailored utilitarian pieces were a common sighting- a welcomed contrast to the informal dressing we have become accustomed to. See our top five trends below.

Summer Suiting

While traditional suits made their usual return to the runway, the summer suit stole the show in a variety of styles. After a two-year hiatus, weddings are picking up, and there's no better time to experiment with this ‘new’ take on a suit. There’s something for every taste, from fancy florals to paisley prints and linen.

Elevated Sportswear

Sportswear takes on a new form this season and pairs functional sportswear pieces with more formal items in fabrications such as leather. The stark contrast and juxtaposition of these pieces are what differentiates this trend from that of athleisure.

Summer Knits

Knits in spring- quite literally groundbreaking! While designers such as Mr. Saturday opted for light, breezy knits, designers such as Robyn Lynch showcased heavy Cable knits worn under puffers.

Double Denim

While this trend is nothing new, double denim shapeshifts with interesting fabrications and washes this season. Typically a fabric easy to mix and match, this season is all about denim co-ords. Patchwork, embellished, ripped or lilac- anything goes.

I’ve never met a pocket I didn't like. While Givenchy took a sportlike approach to styling utilitarian pieces, Graig Green opted for ‘straight jackets’ and military-inspired pieces. Rick Owens paired the trend with tailored jackets.
