Laya

Laya Swim

Laya was born from the need for timeless swimwear, staples you could throw in your hand luggage no matter where you’re headed. Trusty pieces to complement whatever mood you’re in. From hotel pools to palm riddled beaches, sandy feet and salty hair. We love the confidence of a well fitting swimsuit, finding that piece that becomes you. These little comforts are what we live for and the reason we do what we do. We hope to create swimwear you treasure. Manufactured with great care and quality Spanish fabrics to stay with you through your adventures.
Garments have an SPF of 50, are seamless and fully lined.
Designed between Cape Town and Los Angeles, with their long summers and wild seas. Occasionally we escape to our factory in Mauritius where the magic comes together. Available worldwide, purchase our garments confident in our care for the planet.
Our commitment is to long term sustainability and responsible business practices. We are committed to doing everything in our power to discover and learn as much as we can to make the best decisions we can for the earth, for our customers and our business.
We operate with integrity in our relationships and we are committed to our social and environmental responsibility throughout our business operations. These standards are fundamental to our values as a business and we strive to ensure we work with partners who share this commitment.
Sustainable. Ethical. Slow. We believe in caring for the planet.
At Laya we take a slower approach to fashion by using high-quality, sustainably sourced materials. We believe that ethical intentions and sustainable practices, alongside design, should underline a garment's value. We work to integrate core sustainable principles with high-quality materials without compromising on the look, quality and functionality of each piece.
We ship with minimal packaging and your new swimwear is stored in waterproof bags that you can reuse to store and travel with your garments. See what else we're doing:
Sustainable Practices: Our swimwear is made from fabric that is certified Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex, the world’s leader in testing fabrics to regulate harmful substances so you can be sure the fabric you are putting on your body is safe for you and the environment.
What does this label mean? You can be certain that every component of this article has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health. The test is conducted by independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes on the basis of extensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalog. In the test they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. In many cases the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements.
Our path to sustainability is a journey of learning and discovery and we understand that this is our corporate responsibility. We don’t claim to have all the answers or capabilities to tick every box, but we are doing everything in our power to understand our supply chain, make the most sustainable decisions we can, understand our risk areas, offset our carbon emissions and trace our materials back to source.
We understand that every fibre has its pros and cons in terms of impact on the environment and that there is no fix-all solution. However, we ensure that we assess the environmental impact of all fabrics we use and the sustainability of that material’s production is paramount, in addition to consideration of the lifecycle of those materials.
Ethical Manufacturing: All our pieces are made in a small factory in Mauritius by local women. They are cut, sewn, and finished by hand —there is no assembly line. We proudly adhere to fair living wages and realistic deadlines, taking pride in the relationships we have developed with our makers over the years.
Slow Fashion: We manufacture with integrity so that our products stand the test of time. Fundamental to our business model is striving for long-lasting design in style, quality and durability.
Simplicity and understated elegance that captures a timeless appeal is central to our aesthetic. Our swimwear is designed to last beyond the season, moving away from the practice of fast-fashion that generates enormous waste with huge environmental implications. We aim to remove the stigma that clothing should only be worn once or twice. Our swimwear is designed to serve as key standout essentials that can be mixed-and-matched or built upon. We aim to inspire our customers to explore their own personal style through considered design in order to generate a more sustainable future.
As we progress down this path to sustainability, we realise there is always more to learn, new ways to adapt and endless possibilities to evolve. We see our journey toward sustainability as an open and honest conversation with our suppliers, retailers, and most importantly, you. Stay tuned as we continuously work towards more efficient and sustainable models.
