Key Ingredients

Dead Sea Salt: Two thousand years ago Flavius wrote about the healing qualities of the Dead Sea salts, and today we continue to rely on these rich salts to promote healing. Bathing in high quality sea salt can replenish the minerals which are critical to our skin metabolism. Calcium can help to prevent water retention, increase circulation and strengthen bones and nails. Potassium energizes the body, while helping to balance out skin moisture and replenish the body following exercise. Bromides ease muscle stiffness and relax muscles. Magnesium fights stress and fluid retention, while reducing the signs of aging and soothing the nervous system. Sodium supports the lymphatic fluid balance. By promoting cell regeneration, the salts can renew and rejuvenate your skin, while also reducing cellulite, slowing skin ageing and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dead Sea Salts can simultaneously moisturize, detoxify and soften the skin, while helping to treat conditions including acne, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema and scabies. The salts are also treasured for their ability to reduce stress, relax muscles and eliminate toxins.

Grapes: (Vitis vinifera ) Loaded with antioxidants and phytonutrients, grape juice and seeds can protect your skin from oxidative damage while reducing the appearance of wrinkles and promoting smooth, glowing skin. Grapes are widely regarded as an effective anti-ageing ingredient. Grapes have long played a part in human history, from Neolithic times to our present-day fascination with these wondrous fruits. They are native to the Mediterranean, as well as central Europe and parts of Asia. At Rivage we value the alpha hydroxy acids which are present in the skin and the fruit itself. Alpha hydroxy acids help exfoliate your skin while reducing superficial scars

Honey: (Honey) This natural moisturizer also contains powerful antioxidants which fight free radicals and reduce the effects of ageing on your skin. Produced by honey bees, honey is also antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral, so it can help fight infections and promote skin healing, while smoothing dry and rough skin. Rich in minerals, vitamins and amino acids, honey has long been a favorite ingredient in beauty treatments, since the ancient Egyptians first enjoyed its many benefits. The monosaccharides, fructose, glucose and amino acid in honey make it a powerful moisturiser.

Lemon: (Citrus Limonum) Containing citric acid and B vitamins, lemon oil is effective at moisturizing, toning and purifying the skin. Lemon oil can reduce the appearance of age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Lemons are believed to have originated from India, north Burma and China. Lemons contain vitamin C, citric acid, B vitamins, carbohydrates and a small quantity of protein. The citric acid in lemon juice can help to peel away the surface layer of your skin and provide a mattifying effect. Lemon extract helps to tone the skin and remove dead cells, leaving behind the fresh, youthful skin beneath.

Milk: (Lactic Acid) A natural exfoliating agent due to the lactic acid present. Milk’s natural exfoliating action is often utilized to treat age spots, minimize fine lines and energies the skin. Milk is also helpful for keeping your skin moisturized. Cleopatra took milk baths to maintain her legendary beauty, while dermatologists rely on lactic acid to fight the ageing process.

Passion Flower: (Passiflora Edulis) Packed with skin-friendly nutrients, the oil of passion fruit can feed your skin and keep it looking smooth and clear. The oil contains a wealth of vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, phosphorous, calcium and vitamins A and C. Fatty acids in the oil, including oleic and linoleic acids help to maintain your skin’s natural structure, while making a perfect moisturizer for all types of skin. Passion fruit extracts help to fight the signs of ageing by preserving your vital collagen and elastin supplies to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful. Passion fruit is a type of vine which is native to South America. In South Africa it is known as purple granadilla.

Pineapple: (Ananas Sativus) The active ingredients of pineapple include sugars and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) as well as a number of enzymes. These elements offer a number of skin benefits, including moisturizing, anti-ageing and purifying. The alpha-hydroxy acids provide an exfoliating effect and help to remove old skin.

What is Clean Beauty?

With words such as green, natural and organic we are often misled into thinking a product is ‘clean’ without checking the label. Clean beauty means that a product is safe, non-toxic, and has transparent labeling of ingredients. Just because a product is green/natural/organic it doesn’t mean it is clean. Clean Beauty, at its core, is a product that is safe to use with no harmful ingredients (to reiterate: not chemicals, but ingredients!).

Small Batch production

Small batch production has taken off in the last 2-3 years with local businesses taking the lead. From decor and beauty to food brands, we are seeing a huge shift in expectation from consumers as well as brands leading the process. Conscious consumers are moving away from mass-produced, large-scale beauty products to sustainable and eco-friendly makeup brands that operate along ethical lines. A renewed focus on zero-waste makeup is also part of this planet- and people-conscious movement.
