In 1967, we first launched the Nylite sneaker–the first luxury tennis sneaker in the world. It became a favourite when tennis stars like Björn Borg and Martina Navratilova wore them on and off court. By the late 80’s we had established ourselves in the world of fashion. In 2019 we decided to bring back our iconic sneakers, but with some changes. This time we wanted to do it within the Eco Essentials Initiative–our sustainable Innovation engine. In this re-launch we use a 50% natural rubber outsole, a recycled insole, locally sourced canvas from small farms in Vietnam. Responsible sneakers for a more sustainable future.

Nylite maintains all of the design lines from the original pieces in the 60’s . The shoe has a solid sole unit combined with a partially unlined upper created in a heavy cotton canvas and a bound edge. Nylite is designed to be comfortable all day with or without socks. The part recycled, part natural rubber insock base adds another sustainable aspect to the 100% locally sourced materials incorporated in this style.

Buy Sustainable

The processes and systems of fast fashion retailers are being called into question and there’s a radical shift towards the age-old axiom, “quality over quantity,” predominantly  amongst niche online boutiques. The concept of sustainability goes beyond the production of sustainable clothing using textiles that do not harm the planet, and extends to brands who abide by labour laws and take a human-first approach to production. Together, brands like these are making a big difference.

Consciously Curated Luxury

All the products you’ll find on Plain Tiger undergo a meticulous curation process. We look for original designs that are produced according to stringent quality standards, using methods and materials that do not prioritise profit to the detriment of people or the planet. We are a sustainable shopping destination for conscious luxury goods, allowing brands from all over the world to increase their global footprint beyond their country of origin.
